Jack Winkler said, “Even though it happened 9 years and 5 months ago, it feels like it happened yesterday.”

Mary Lou Winkler said, “It’s lonely. I miss her. There’s not a day that goes by I don’t think about her. I look at her friends and her friends are married and out of college and she had all of these hopes and dreams that are never going to work. I found in a drawer the names of the children that she was going to have someday and when I look at my grandchildren and I think that her’s aren’t going to be here it’s really heart wrenching.”

The Winklers said Rebecca was driving on Central Avenue Pike early that morning when she was hit head-on by a Jeep Liberty. Investigators told the parents Rebecca’s vehicle skidded 64 feet while spinning and the Jeep Liberty flipped upside down. The driver of the Jeep Liberty had bruises and scratches. Rebecca was taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center where she died later that morning.

Jack Winkler said, “The guy who hit her was 47 years old and it was his 10th visit at a DUI lawyer Houston.”

They did get justice for their daughter, but what’s lost is lost. Getting justice will not bring their daughter back. Still wondering Are DUI Lawyers Worth It? Just know this, that someday it could be your family behind the wheel.

Since their daughter’s death, the couple has been working with Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) sharing Rebecca’s story, in hopes of preventing others from getting behind the wheel while under the influence of alcohol or illegal / legal drugs.

Jack Winkler said, “The penalty, no matter how long or short it is, never brings back your child.”

MADD is hosing a candlelight Vigil to remember those who have been a victim of drunk driving on December 6, 2014 at 6:00 PM at Oak Ridge Baptist Church (1451 Bethel Valley Road, Oak Ridge, TN 37830). MADD is asking participants to bring a picture of their loved one who was a victim of drunk driving.
